Susquehanna Valley Community Mental Health Services is dedicated to bringing quality mental health services to people who might not be able to access care otherwise. We created our business as we began to identify the need for mental health services within the City of York. Our organization provides mental health services for trauma survivors and serves on-site at two local shelters for survivors of human trafficking.

Services Offered
- Outpatient Mental Health, Trauma, and Substance Abuse Treatment Outpatient therapy is available for all ages. We now offer services for children, adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population.
- Group Therapy Groups are now forming for teens and co-occurring mental health and addictions.
- Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) DBT is available with a trained practitioner. This program is a comprehensive DBT program, with individual therapy, group therapy, and phone coaching. DBT for addictions is available as well.
- Forensic Evaluations We provide quality forensic evaluations from a doctoral-level psychologist trained specifically in forensic assessment. Evaluations for juvenile and criminal court are available. Death penalty competence evaluations are not available at this time.
- Competence Restoration We provide outpatient competence restoration services for juvenile and adult courts.
- Psychological Evaluations Detailed diagnostic evaluations are also available for all ages.
- Psychoeducational Evaluations We also provide psychoeducational evaluations for those seeking a second opinion on decisions made by the school district.
Fees and Payment
This is a 501(C)3 non-profit counseling agency. Sliding Scale is available for those with no insurance coverage. Fees are based on income, so proof of income is required for this service. Sliding scale coverage starts at $0 for those whose income is below the poverty level.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
