Freedom House Recovery Center is a behavioral health care agency that provides a broad continuum of person-centered, comprehensive services for children, adolescents, adults and families who suffer from behavioral issues, mental illness or addiction. Freedom House has provided hope and healing to people of all ages, from all walks of life, for over 40 years. We provide services in Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Orange, Person, Vance and Warren counties and treat individuals from across the state.

Services Offered
Adult Outpatient Services - Our outpatient services provide assistance in managing severe mental disorders, resolving shorter-term difficulties, achieving recovery from addictions and maintaining sobriety. Freedom House utilizes leading-edge, evidence-based practices and therapies when creating a treatment plan for you. Some of the services offered are: * Individual and Group Therapy * Family Therapy * Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) * Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP)
Pro Bono Counseling Services - Through our Pro Bono Counseling Network, Freedom House recruits area therapists to provide free short-term counseling to underinsured or uninsured people in Orange, Durham, Chatham and Person counties and who are in need of services. Up to 8 free counseling sessions are offered - often enough to get a person back on their feet and feeling much better.
Child and Adolescent Services - Freedom House Recovery Center offers a variety of services and programs to help children, adolescents and their families manage mental health and substance abuse issues. Our collaborative team of professionals creates a tailored treatment plan specifically for your child. We believe that the most effective treatment for children involves the people who love them - their family - and offer therapies and trainings to parents, siblings and extended family. Some of the services offered are: * Individual and Family Outpatient Therapy * Peer Group Therapy * Intensive-In Home Therapy * Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Therapy (SAIOP) * Support services for children and adolescents with a parent struggling with mental illness or substance abuse
Child & Adolescent Outpatient Clinic - Provides outpatient therapy for children and their families as well as parent-focused workshops and peer-support groups.
Family Advocacy Network - Through the Family Advocacy Network (FAN), Freedom House provides critical assistance to parents raising school-age children with emotional/behavioral issues, mental illness, learning differences, substance abuse problems and other challenges. The network's centerpiece is 1:1 support with a staff family advocate or volunteer parent mentor. Our advocates and mentors have received best-practice training, and they often offer empathy and insights gained through their own experience as parents raising children with special needs. (Note: Volunteer parent mentors are currently only available in Orange County.) FAN also offers group support, advocacy and parenting skills training, all to help families navigate challenges at home, in school and in the juvenile court system.
Fees and Payment
Freedom House participates with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid and Medicare and bills all private insurance. We offer services on a sliding fee scale based on financial criteria for clients without benefit coverage.
Grants and private donations allow Freedom House to offer help to all people, regardless of ability to pay.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
