Services Offered
Individual, Group & Family Therapy - Individual, Group & Family Therapy are the main services provided at Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and are primarily available to Medicaid-eligible individuals who meet the Washington State priority definitions, determined through the BHS intake process. Individual Therapy is designed to assist in attaining the goals developed and identified on the service plan. The treatment services are conducted by a mental health professional with individuals and any persons who are natural supports in their lives. Family Therapy services are provided for the direct benefit of an individual, with family members and/or other relevant persons in attendance. Interventions identify and build competencies to strengthen family functions in relationship to the individual's identified goals. The individual may or may not be present. Group Therapy services are provided to an individual in a group setting to assist them in attaining the goals described in the service plan. There are groups for children, adolescents and adults.
Psychiatric Services - Psychiatric Services are primarily available to Medicaid-eligible individuals who meet the Washington State priority definitions. Clinicians provide psychiatric assessment, medication management and psychotherapy for children, adults and families, with special emphasis on children and adolescents. Services also may include consultations to primary care and other community providers and facilities. Services are provided by Psychiatrists or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners on an outpatient basis. Most individuals receiving psychiatric services are also being seen by a counselor or therapist at Behavioral Health Services.
Applied Behavior Analysis - An intensive behavioral program for individuals who have obtained a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder from a Center of Excellence and a prescription for Applied Behavior Analysis. The program provides services for children ages 5 to 12, who display challenging and or aggressive behaviors that impede on their social and academic improvement.
Brief Therapy - Brief intervention treatment services are solution-focused and outcome-oriented cognitive and behavioral interventions, intended to resolve situational disturbances. These services do not require long term treatment and do not include on-going care, maintenance, or monitoring of the individual's current level of function or assistance with self-care or life skills training.
Behavioral Assessment Team - BAT services are provided at Children's Village. BAT provides on-site behavior assessment and brief treatment services to children who exhibit challenging behaviors such as severe tantrums, noncompliance, aggression and self-injury. Treatment is provided in the child's natural environment (home, school, etc.) whenever possible. BAT specializes in working with children with developmental delays and other special needs and their families.
Youth Chemical Dependency Assessment & Treatment - Provides assessments, intakes, group sessions, Level 1 Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient and After-Care. Individual sessions are also offered. Services are provided for youth between the ages of 10-20. Parents are involved when possible. Services are provided in the office as well as at local schools and at the Yakima County Juvenile Court facility. A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
