Counseling & Treatment Services - Centerpoint's Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services provide a full array of counseling supports for youth, young adults, parents, and families struggling with the broad range of social, emotional, mental health, and substance abuse concerns. Clients initially participate in an assessment and evaluation process, identifying their needs and abilities, resulting in recommendations for services and support, and providing assistance in accessing this support.
Family Support Counseling - At Centerpoint, we work with many parents and caregivers who are facing their own difficulties as they try to raise their teens. We meet with parents who feel alone, at a loss, not sure where to turn or what to do. Through our Parenting, Care Giver, and Family Support Services, we recognize that a teen's challenges affect the whole family. We also recognize that when parents and families struggle, the children and teens within the family may be the most affected. And in our work with young people, we see some of the greatest success when we are able to assist and support the whole family.
Group Therapy and Counseling for Teens, Young Adults, and Parents - Centerpoint's group services and supports demonstrated to be an effective approach for counseling teens. Skillful use of peer influence and group dynamics allows change to occur more quickly and sets the stage for longer-lasting progress through the development of natural adult and peer-based supports.
Substance Abuse Prevention - Center Point Substance Abuse Prevention educates students and parents about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs and aims at equipping them with the knowledge necessary to make healthy lifestyle decisions. This is accomplished through a state-wide underage drinking prevention project focusing on youth prevention teams, media literacy, community partnerships, and parent involvement efforts.
Teen Pregnancy Prevention - Teen Pregnancy Prevention programming supports teens by providing weekly, ongoing services. Such services focus on comprehensive prevention education within a peer-group environment in an effort to increase knowledge and skills. Our hope is to give teens the tools necessary to become healthy adults.

Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
