At Bacon Street Youth and Family Services we are passionate about supporting families. For close to 45 years we have served adolescents and families dealing with substance abuse through treatment and prevention programs. As a family focused provider, our counseling services extend to family members affected by and involved in the youth's counseling and/or recovery needs. The program engages youth and their families in a process of measuring the extent of the young person's substance abuse, educating the family about substance abuse, providing the individual client and family with activities to allow for the development of new behaviors, and opportunities to address other disorders which may be co-occurring with substance abuse. At Bacon Street Youth and Family Services, we truly understand how scary and overwhelming adolescent substance abuse issues are and we are here to help, free of judgment and full of compassion.
Our mission to "to provide service to young people and families affected by substance abuse and/or mental health issues" is centered on mentorship, advocacy, support, healing, listening, and empathy. We work to build lifelong relationships with the communities we serve and focus on healing for the entire family during the treatment process.

Services Offered
Treatment Services Bacon Street Youth and Family Services offers a variety of services to address the problem of alcohol and other drug abuse in our communities.
These services are for young people who may be experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs. When a young person or family first contacts Bacon Street, they are often unsure of what the problem is and what they can do about it. Bacon Street helps these individuals by: - Determining whether there is a problem and what the nature and extent of the problem is. - Providing counseling and education to the adolescent and their family so that all will understand the problem and what part they can play in overcoming it. - Referring to other agencies and organizations who may be able to assist in overcoming their problem. We use a variety of therapeutic methods that are evidence based and have been proven to be effective strategies to support youth in making changes in their life. The primary method used is called Motivational Interviewing, and has been a gold standard for helping solve substance abuse and mental health challenges for adolescents and young adults.
Youth Prevention At Bacon Street we focus on evidence based family, group, and individual prevention strategies and programs. Our services promote the conditions under which people can confront situations in their lives in constructive and healthy ways without the destructive response of substance abuse.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
