Valley Behavioral Health is a network of clinics providing treatment for behavioral conditions, addictions, psychiatric conditions, autism and other chronic health conditions. We treat chronic lifelong conditions as well as temporary conditions triggered by traumatic life events. Our programs are tailored to people of all ages and every social, cultural and economic situation.
Outpatient Services for Adults - Many mental heath and substance use issues don't require hospitalization. They're perfectly treatable on an outpatient basis, which allows clients to continue to live normal, productive lives in the community. Our outpatient clinics are located throughout Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties. They offer treatments such as diagnostic evaluation, individual, family and group therapy/counseling, medication evaluation and management, skills training, case management, peer services and crisis intervention.
Outpatient Services for Children - Children's Outpatient Services are available for youth with a mental health diagnosis from infancy through age 18. For clients aged 12 and older, we also offer substance use services including those focused on co-occurring disorders. Outpatient services offered include assessments, family, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, abuse and trauma treatment and medication management. We also work closely with DCFS for assessment and treatment.
Outpatient treatment focuses on decreasing a child's symptoms in order to enhance and maintain the child's level of functioning. These services include supportive stabilization, crisis management, coping skills, problem solving, and elimination of dysfunctional or risky behaviors. Valley offers an east and west location for convenience. Outpatient services are also available in selected elementary, middle and high school sites in Salt Lake, Granite, Canyons, Murray and Jordan school districts. These services include individual and family therapy as well as providing access to community support programs.

Were You Able To Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
