Mental Health Services
Assessments We can schedule an initial appointment for your child and necessary family members to evaluate the mental health issues that are presented. Our Intake Specialists complete mental health evaluations to help connect your child with the appropriate mental health therapist as quickly as possible.
Family, individual and group therapy Mental health therapy helps your child through individual, family and group therapy better understand their personal needs, and helps clients and their families learn new skills to manage life situations or relationships more effectively. Our therapists help clients develop treatment goals and provide the appropriate therapeutic support and guidance based on the client's diagnosis or problem area.
Psychological Testing
Psychological evaluations A psychologist can diagnose mental health challenges, and is trained to use specific assessment tools or tests to help identify or clarify issues related to intelligence, personality, academic functioning, attention, impulsivity, attitudes, autism spectrum disorders, or other behaviors.
Neuropsychological evaluations This assessment uses tools or tests for a patient who is experiencing behavioral or cognitive issues related to a medical condition. Clients are referred by their primary health care provider for such conditions as seizures/epilepsy, concussion or traumatic brain injury, motor skills issues, language disturbance, or learning disabilities that are associated with a medical condition.
Concussion evaluations If your child has experienced a concussion and is slow to recover, a concussion evaluation can be done to determine whether the symptoms are due to the lingering effects of a concussion or some other disorder. Based on the results, treatment might include physical therapy, accommodations for school, or follow-up testing if the client is not yet able to return to physical activities.
Psychiatry
Assessments A psychiatric evaluation includes the assessment of a child's mental health needs and medical condition. It can be done by a psychiatrist, a licensed physician who evaluates mental health challenges, or by an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber, who has an advanced nursing degree and is certified in psychiatric medication management and mental health treatment.
Medication management Medication can often be helpful for emotional and behavioral conditions affecting a child, often in combination with mental health counseling. The goal is to reduce significant emotional or mood symptoms and/or to stabilize behaviors.
Day Treatment for Teens Catalpa Health's Day Treatment Program is for middle and high school students who are transitioning to a lower level of care after being discharged from a residential program or inpatient hospitalization, or are needing a higher level of care than typical outpatient counseling can provide.

Qualifying for assistance from Wisconsin's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Wisconsin's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
