Services Offered
Clinical Supervision: Licensed MSW Staff provide clinical supervision to human service agencies per individual contracts.
Family Preservation: Clinical staff provides individual, couple, and family counseling to individuals referred by Herkimer or Oneida County Departments of Social Services due to abuse and neglect.
Youth with Sexual Behavior Issues: Clinical Staff provide specialized counseling to youth who have engaged in problematic sexual behaviors. Youth 20 years of age or younger who reside in Oneida County can receive these services free under grant funding.
Sexual Abuse Treatment Program: Clinical staff provides specialized counseling to youth who have been sexually abused to help them cope with sexual abuse in increasingly functional ways. Youth 20 years of age or younger who have been sexually victimized and who reside in Oneida county can receive these services free under grant funding. Sexual Offender Treatment Program: Clinical staff provides sex offense specific treatment to adults who have committed sexual abuse. Therapy includes individual, couple, family, and group counseling using a holistic, cognitive behavioral approach combining principles of the Risk, Needs, Responsivity model and Good Lives Model.
Supportive Care Management: CFLR Clinical staff partner with The Neighborhood Center, Inc., and Catholic Charities of Oneida and Madison Counties to provide case management services to adults who are 18 years of age or older and meet the New York State Office of Mental Health's criteria for severe and persistent mental illness. Case management can include coordination services, medication management, and assistance in securing adequate housing and employment. The PINS Diversion Program: CFLR Clinical staff, Herkimer County Probation, and Herkimer County Department of Social Services provide individual and group counseling to Herkimer County youth experiencing emotional difficulties and the families of those youth or youth who are at risk of developing emotional difficulty and the families. Youth who reside in Herkimer County and are 18 years of age or younger and their families receive counseling and advocacy services through a combination of the PINS and IMPACT programs to decrease placement outside of the home, reduce aggression, and improve parenting skills.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
