Child and Family Services - at CCBC provides children, birth to 19 years, with comprehensive outpatient treatment for emotional, developmental, and behavioral problems. Our responsive and flexible programming is offered both in our offices and in the community. How developmental and family issues are managed is important in a child's overall development and adaptation. When problems occur, children have a great potential for success, especially with early intervention and rapid support for families. Problems not addressed can lead to greater upheaval in the family, school, and community. Appropriate, relevant and sensitive treatment minimizes disruption to the child's social, physical and cognitive development. Therapy may include assistance, guidance, consultation, and possibly medication to help the child and family manage the problem. Involving the teacher and parents can increase the child's chances to overcome difficulties and achieve success in school and elsewhere.

Child Trauma Treatment Study - IHT is a structured, consistent, strength-based therapeutic relationship between a master's level clinician and the youth and family for the purpose of treating the youth's behavioral health needs, including the family's ability to provide effective support for the youth to promote his/her healthy functioning within the family. Interventions are designed to enhance and improve the family's capacity to improve the youth's functioning in the home and community and may prevent the need for a youth's admission to an inpatient or other treatment setting. The IHT provider develops a treatment plan and, using established psychotherapeutic, trauma informed techniques and intensive family therapy, works with the entire family, or a subset of the family, to implement focused interventions and behavioral techniques. Twenty-four hour urgent phone response is available for enrolled recipients.
Substance Abuse Prevention - There is nothing more disruptive to the family and the community than substance abuse and chemical dependency. Substance abuse often contributes to accidents, decreased productivity at work, marital problems, child abuse, sexual abuse, financial problems and more. Qualifying for assistance from Massachusetts' program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Massachusetts' program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
