Services Offered
Community Services Program This program assists offenders, former offenders and other high risk populations in rebuilding their lives as productive, self-sufficient and law-abiding members of the community. Adult Residential Services The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) contracts with AWS to operate Residential Reentry Centers (RRC) for federal offenders. These facilities provide 24-hour supervision, employment assistance, counseling, life skills training (finances, parenting, etc.), family reintegration and other supportive services to facilitate a successful transition back into the community.
Youth Services Program AWS offers a continuum of care provided by a diverse and experienced staff that includes residential, academic, clinical, and home based community services. The following therapeutic programs and services are provided to children and adolescents in our care: a Residential High Management Group Home, and Intensive Family Services. All youth programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
Veterans Services Program The Alston Wilkes Society Veterans Home (AWVH) is a valuable project that was a first in South Carolina. It has proven its worth in both our community and state. Through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grant award, the continuous efforts of AWVH staff, collaboration with community partners, and support from the Veterans Administration; homeless Veterans in the Carolinas have a stable alternative to homelessness. Beyond providing the essentials of food, shelter, and supportive services, AWS is committed to reaffirming Veterans' self-worth giving them a chance to contribute to the community and society overall.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
