Services Offered
Individual & Family Therapy Our therapists engage youth and families by establishing a strong connection and drawing upon techniques from multiple types of therapy, including cognitive behavioral, play, art, and sand tray therapy, as well as trauma-informed therapy and motivational interviewing. These techniques help the therapist, client, and family work together to solve problems, get along better, and stay out of trouble.
Functional Family Therapy (FFT) Functional Family Therapy is a proven family therapy model for youth ages 10-18 and their family. FFT is a short-term program, usually lasting about 12 weeks in duration. FFT helps youth make better choices, helps families get along, and increases the amount of respect and support family members can offer each other. Families are seen with as many key family members as can participate, for the duration of the treatment. All of our Juvenile Probation-referred clients receive FFT, as well as some of our families referred through Family Youth & Children's Prevention Services, Seneca Wraparound Family Therapy Services, and the Medi-Cal Children's Counseling Collaborative.
These services are offered to youth ages 5-25 and their families who have Medi-Cal or are referred by Family Youth and Children Prevention Services, Sonoma County Juvenile Probation, and Seneca Family Permanence Collaborative.
Grief Services SAY Grief Services offers peer support groups for children, youth, and families healing after a death of a loved one. Our groups are age-specific and customized to the unique emotional and developmental needs of each participant. With the support of professional mental health facilitators youth are able to express their grief in their own time, and in a way that is uniquely their own. Our therapeutic use of expressive arts provides the essential tools for rich, honest communication and participants are encouraged to share their unique stories and memories while deepening their common connections with peers.
School Based Mental Health Services SAY offers mental health services in schools across Sonoma County, including in the Santa Rosa City Schools District and the Sonoma Valley Unified School District. These services include brief interventions, assessment, treatment, and referrals.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
