* Asian Family Institute - Asian Family Institute (AFI) is a program of Richmond Area Multi-Services, Inc. The program provides culturally competent, mental health services with an emphasis on serving the Asian and Pacific Islander Community.

> Psychological Testing and Assessment - Our psychologist can conduct an evaluation for adults and children, which is more in-depth than an office visit. Psychological testing and assessments may be recommended to further support mental health providers in arriving at a diagnosis by identifying issues such as learning needs and behavioral and emotional challenges (e.g. Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders) as well as informing treatment planning by determining strategies on how to best support the individual.
* CalWORKs Counseling & Pre-Vocational Services - The RAMS CalWORKs Counseling & Pre-Vocational Services provides culturally competent, short-term outpatient behavioral health counseling and psycho-educational soft skills training & coaching to participants of the San Francisco Department of Human Services (DHS) California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids Program (CalWORKs), the county's welfare-to-work program serving families with dependent children. The RAMS CalWORKs program aims to increase the family's capacity for self-sufficiency by offering time-limited interventions and support to reduce and/or overcome identified barriers to employment.
Counseling services include, but are not limited to: > Individual, Group and Family Counseling > Case Management > Assessment & Crisis Intervention > Learning Needs Assessment > Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management > Psycho-education > Consultation and Outreach
* CAAP Counseling & Pre-Vocational Services - The RAMS CAAP Counseling & Pre-Vocational Services program serves clients enrolled in various programs of SF Department of Human Services (DHS). The CAAP Counseling & Pre-Vocational Services program has three components: 1.) Triage, which provides brief employability screenings and assessment for all clients receiving cash assistance (GA) from the County Adult Assistance Program (CAAP). 2.) Assessment-Counseling Services, which offers short-term assessment and treatment for clients, with behavioral health concerns, enrolled in the CAAP - the county's welfare-to-work program for adults without dependent children. This component assists in identifying employment barriers and offering linkage to community resources. Services include, but are not limited to: > Assessment & Crisis Intervention > Individual assessment and counseling > Group therapy > Case Management > Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management > Consultation & Outreach 3.) Pre-Vocational Services, a collaboration with the Workforce Development Department (WDD) for the Job Plus Activity (JPA). This component offers a 6-week Jobs Plus Activity (JPA) for clients of the PAES program, designed to equip clients with skills/abilities/attitudes relevant to obtaining and retaining employment. RAMS facilitates workshops and offers On-the-Job Assessment at the RAMS Hire-Ability program.
Child, Youth, and Family Services * Asian Family Institute
* Child, Youth & Family Outpatient Services - The Child, Youth & Family Outpatient Clinic provides outpatient services to children, ages 0-18, who reside in San Francisco. Services are also provided to consumers, up to 21 years old, for those who have special status established through the San Francisco Unified School District or other mental health settings. The Child, Youth & Family Outpatient Clinic provides the following Services Offered: Individual, Group and Family Therapy; Case Management; Psychological Assessment and Testing; Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management; and Psychoeducation and Consultation.
* Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) - RAMS, Inc. provides outpatient and school-based, mental health, and consultation services to children, youth and their families who have full-scope Medi-Cal.
* Fu Yau Project - The Fu Yau Project provides prevention and early intervention mental health services to the family resource centers and childcare community that cares for children, ages 0-5 years old. Services include the following: on-site program and child observation; clinical consultation with childcare staff and families; on-site intervention with individual and groups of children; parenting classes and support groups; and in-service training for the childcare staff relating to child development and mental health related issues.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
