Student Health & Counseling Services

Each year we grant Top Non-Profit Badges to agencies based on these criteria:

Our aim is to guide our users to agencies most likely to be able to help. In addition to the above criteria we also exercise editorial discretion with our choice based upon our experience. We take our responsibility and objectivity seriously. We neither ask for or accept any form of payment from providers to be given this honor.


  • Overview

The Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services has been in operation since 1968. The center provides the broader Sacramento region affordable counseling and educational testing.

Services are offered during the academic year: September through December and February through May. If we cannot accommodate specific client needs, referrals to other services can be provided. The center is accessible to individuals with disabilities and there are several bus lines that service the campus. Services are by appointment only please call (916) 278-6252 for more information.

Services Offered:

Counseling Services

The Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services, located on the California State University, Sacramento campus, welcomes all members of the Sacramento Area community for individual, couple and family counseling. We encourage you to use our services whatever your age, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual orientation, marital status or family situation. Single-parent and blended families, "traditional" and "non-traditional" families, married couples, domestic partners and individuals of any background and life situation are welcome. The center is not equipped to provide intensive psychiatric services. Counseling availability varies by semester.

Individual Counseling For adults or children who want assistance and skills in dealing with personal changes, emotional and social challenges, and other personal issues such as divorce/separation, depression, anger, and stress.

Couple Counseling Whether you are married, "coupled," or domestic partners, this is for those seeking to strengthen and improve their relationships or to work on unsatisfactory relationship issues.

Career Counseling
Persons who would like assistance in learning how to make decisions and needing information or guidance for educational or career choices can receive counseling and appropriate referrals. Undergraduate students already admitted to CSUS who have questions regarding required courses or course sequencing should contact the CSUS Academic Advising office at 278-6351. Graduate students with similar questions should contact their CSUS faculty advisor (usually assigned by the student's individual department).

Rehabilitation Counseling Individuals with disabilities
who are interested in receiving assistance and services regarding all areas of their life, including vocational testing. Guidance is provided with testing and assessments pertaining to individual career exploration, professional, academic and personal counseling, wellness strategies and other services as needed. This service is for clients 18 years and older.

Fees & Payments:

Counseling is $100.00 (approximately 7 dollars a session) for 14 sessions. Clients may pay half of the amount due at the start of counseling and the remaining balance halfway through their sessions.

If a client begins counseling at any other point in the semester sessions will be pro-rated.

CSU Sacramento Students have free access to the Student Health and Counseling Services located at the WELL. Their website can be found here: https://www.csus.edu/shcs/ Students may be seen at our center, however there may be a small fee for services.
