Child & Family Behavioral Health * Children's Crisis Services, Intake and Intensive Family-Based Services Programs - Crisis stabilization provides face-to-face mental health or substance abuse services. Support and referral includes triaging aftercare needs, supportive counseling, skills training, symptom management, crisis planning, and assistance with referrals from crisis stabilization in a child's home or by phone. Crisis intervention services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
* Outpatient Services - Through the Outpatient Services program, children from birth to age 18* and their families are able to receive psychotherapy (individual, family, group), case management, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management for mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.
* Therapeutic Case Management - Case management provides an experienced professional to work one-on-one with both your child and your family, to coordinate other services and supports that will provide the best plan for treatment. Services are provided in the home, school, community, and contracted early childhood sites.
Adult Behavioral Health * Community Rehabilitation and Treatment Program - The CRT program provides a wide range of services to adults with serious and persistent mental illness who meet eligibility criteria established by the Vermont Department of Mental Health. Programs include traditional outpatient therapy, case management, vocational and housing assistance, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and services for persons with co-occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse.
* Adult Case Management - Assists individuals in developing and attaining goals, in accessing community resources, and solving problems.
* Outpatient Treatment - Provides individual and group therapy to allow individuals to develop improved coping strategies.
* Medication Management - Psychiatric evaluation; information regarding psychoactive medications; and medication management.
Substance Use Disorders A bio-psychosocial assessment is completed on all individuals seeking treatment. The assessment includes a comprehensive clinical diagnosis and non-psychiatric assessment, development of an individual treatment plan, identification of mutually agreed upon treatment goals and objectives, and referral to the most appropriate program and/or provider using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria as a guideline.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
