Child & Adolescent
Much like therapy for adults, therapy for children and adolescents focuses on helping children, adolescents and their families when emotional problems hinder emotional growth and development. New Leaf is committed to an approach to therapy that deals with underlying causes of problems and that assists children and adolescents to create a strong emotional foundation for ongoing development. Our approach is based on a combination of talk therapy and play therapy techniques that address the complex emotional life of children and adolescents.
Family Therapy
The primary goal of family therapy is to help family members find healthy ways to improve communication and resolve conflict. For best results, all family members need to work together with the therapist toward common goals.
Family therapy may be the primary focus of treatment, or it could be used as a supplement to individual therapy.
Couples Counseling
The goal of couples counseling is to understand the relationship dynamic of the couple, and to identify areas of strain and frustration which add stress to the relationship. In a series of counseling sessions, the couple can explore their perception of the relationship, their expectations of each other, and the situations which may be causing them to feel alienated from each other.
Group Therapy
Group therapy, like individual therapy, is intended to help individuals who would like to improve their ability to cope with difficulties and problems in their lives. But, while in individual therapy the individual meets with only one person (the therapist), in group therapy the meeting is with a group of individuals with one or two therapists facilitating the session. The focus of group therapy is to help with solving the emotional difficulties and to encourage the personal development of the participants in the group.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a powerful new psychotherapy technique which has been very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post traumatic stress and many other emotional problems. Until recently, these conditions were difficult and time-consuming to treat. EMDR is considered a breakthrough therapy because of its simplicity and the fact that it can bring quick and lasting relief for most types of emotional distress.

Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
Qualifying for assistance from North Carolina's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to North Carolina's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
