Youth Programs
Through evidence-based and best practice strategies, Northwest Family Services offers a wide range of programs and services in the Portland metropolitan area. School-based programs include case management, after-school and summer programs, groups, and a variety of services including alcohol and drug, suicide, gang, and child sex trafficking prevention. Our restorative justice program, Peer Court, is an excellent opportunity for youth to be a part of the solution and gain valuable leadership skills. Outpatient alcohol and drug treatment is also available in certain locations.
Children and youth who are affected by incarceration receive individual and group support. Our staff use a strength-based approach and focus on reducing risks and increasing resiliency. Whenever possible, the family members are involved and several annual programs are directly specifically to reinforcing those important relationships.
Programs for Couples & Singles
programs_for_couplesNorthwest Family Services is dedicated to teaching healthy and life-giving choices to families, couples and singles. We offer individual, couple, and family counseling as well as educational seminars and classes on a variety of topics.
We also offer classes to help engaged couples, and those contemplating engagement, discern their vocation to marriage.
We have been providing Natural Family Planning education for over 30 years, and offer classes nationally, online and through mail-in correspondence. Whether you are engaged, newly married or have been living out your vows for years, NFP is a great way to manage your fertility while respecting your body and your marriage bond.
Counseling We provide counseling services to individuals, couples and families. These services are available in English and Spanish.

Fees and Payment
Our fees fall within the norms of usual and customary rates for the counseling profession. Our licensed counselors accept many insurance plans. We offer a sliding fee scale and low-income options for persons who may need financial consideration.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
