PROCEED constantly evaluates to identify consumer needs and responds to these by incorporating new state of the art programs and services. Every year, PROCEED provides an array of social, health, and energy conservation services to approximately 16,000 individuals and families throughout Union County, most of which are free or provided on a sliding-scale.
Since 2000, PROCEED has also been providing individual and group level, local and national capacity building assistance, training, curricula and program development, and service implementation to organizations and individuals in the HIV/AIDS and substance abuse fields.

Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment Services * Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention -- For over twenty-five years, PROCEED has provided both in-home counseling services and one-on-one counseling for children and parents affected by child abuse and neglect. We believe that child abuse and neglect are often the manifestations of other problems within a family, and therefore must be acknowledged and addressed by the family. In light of this, PROCEED takes a holistic approach to addressing these issues.
* Outpatient Substance Use Treatment -- Dealing with drug addiction or alcoholism is not easy, but recovery starts with admitting that you have a problem, and then taking steps to seek help. If individuals are committed to quitting, it is possible to recover from any degree of alcoholism, substance use or abuse. If you have a pattern of drinking or using drugs that negatively impacts you from carrying out major responsibilities at work, school, or home; if you are facing legal problems because of drugs or alcohol; or if your continued use is affecting your relationships with other people, then is time to seek professional help begin working towards a lasting recovery.
Services that are always provided include: > Individual counseling sessions with NJ Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors > Drug use monitoring, as lapses during treatment do occur > Educational workshops > In-house HIV testing > Referrals for Hepatitis B and C, Tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases testing > Risk reduction counseling that teaches you how to modify or change behaviors that place you at risk of contracting or spreading infectious diseases.
* Outpatient Youth Counseling -- Our counselors work with the youth to develop plans that directly address the needs they identify. The goal of these counseling sessions is to foster positive youth development, and instill healthy habits that will last well beyond adolescence. Counselors address the emotional, social, educational, and family needs of the individual in a private, one-on-one setting, group sessions, or case management sessions, as appropriate.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
