Services Offered
Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) - Specially certified New Morning therapists work directly with the parents of children who are experiencing behavioral problems, including aggression and trouble following directions, to repair their relationships and improve family interaction. This is accomplished by giving parents the tools to provide effective discipline while boosting the child's self-esteem and enhancing the attachment between parent and child. Parents are taught various approaches to improvement of both the child's behavior and the parent-child relationship, including the use of play, strategic praise, distraction techniques, and so on. Once the parent has received instruction, parent and child are placed in a room with a table and toys. The parent is equipped with a small earpiece and given simple, direct coaching for implementing learned interaction techniques by a therapist, who observes the parent child interaction from behind a one-way mirror. Once effective use of the techniques have been mastered over the 16-20 week program, long-term implementation of techniques continues in the home environment.
Early Childhood Counseling - The goal of our early child mental health program is to provide affordable and professional intervention as early as possible in a child's life. A parent (or primary caregiver) is involved in nearly every aspect of our therapy programs, most of which pivot upon laying the groundwork for and reinforcing caregiver-child bonds. Our services are provided to hundreds of children and families every year: professional assessment of early mental health concerns; counseling of infants, young children and their caregivers; play therapy, and alliances with other community advocates like Early Headstart, Headstart, pre-schools, teachers and social workers.
Child and Teen Counseling - The New Morning Youth and Family Services clinic offers a wide range of services for individual children and teens, as well as their families. Our goal is to ensure that children are safe, healthy, at home, in school, and out of trouble.
School-Based Therapy - New Morning Youth and Family Services partners with many schools and agencies county-wide, placing licensed therapists and supervised interns on-site at their facilities where their services may be most accessible.
Shelter-Based Therapy - Youth Behavioral Specialists are available 24 hours a day to talk with Shelter residents, de-escalate parent-child conflicts, and field phone calls from both pubic and private agencies. Our Shelter accepts youth for drop-in and overnight services.

One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
