Services Offered
Neurobehavioral Evaluation Services
A neuropsychological evaluation is designed to understand cognitive and personality functioning and reveal an individual's strengths and weaknesses. This information helps in formulating a diagnosis, understanding the individual as an whole, and serves as an aid for treatment planning. Neuropsychological evaluations take into account how an individual's cognitive and personality factors interact and impact functioning in everyday life.
At The Hume Center, the goal of these assessments is to identify an individual's cognitive profile and make recommendations that build on the individual's strengths and allow that individual to increase his or her functioning in the community.
The Early Childhood and Family Services (ECFS)
The Early Childhood and Family Services (ECFS) program offers services to the early childhood population (0-6) and their caregivers. Once a referral is received by The Hume Center, the client is matched with an individual clinician based on language specialties and enrolled in therapy modalities depending upon treatment plan. The goals and aspirations of our Early Childhood program are to provide Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment to children and their families who are at risk or in the throes of social, emotional, behavioral or developmental difficulties.
School Based Program
A student's social, emotional and academic development is successfully accomplished when there is a partnership between the persons involved in the student's life. A student spends the majority of their time in an educational setting or related environment when they are not in their home. Often persons in education become secondary caregivers. When the people who interact with the student (i.e. administrator, teaching staff, and caregivers) have a common understanding of the student's needs and strengths and what is necessary for the student to achieve success, they can begin to reinforce the student in a manner that will ensure the positive and healthy development of the student's social, emotional and academic goals.

If You Call, Please Let Us Know How it Went:
Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
