The Family Guidance Center of Warren County (FGCWC) has been providing behavioral health services to the Warren County community for over 60 years. FGCWC serves over 5,000 people each year who have mental health, substance abuse, family conflict and emotional adjustment disorders and provides over 100,000 treatment sessions each year.

Services Offered
Outpatient Mental Health Program - Provides individuals and families with opportunities to work towards optimal emotional healing. Services Offered:* Assessment and treatment planning * Individual, couples, group and family therapy * Psychiatric services * Case management services
Clients typically include children and adults affected by: * Mental health and emotional disorders * Transitional life cycle crises such as loss of a loved one, divorce and loss of employment * Difficulties at school, work or with relationships * Adults experiencing difficulties due to sexual abuse in childhood
Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Program (IOP) - Serves adults with a serious and persistent mental illness who often have a co-occurring substance use disorder, and who require more intensive treatment and support services than the standard outpatient mental health program can provide. Family Guidance Center's Opportunities for Wellness program provides immediate access to mental health services (within 24 hours) which allows consumers to get treatment quickly when their need is greatest. This program offers structured, intensive individualized clinical activities designed to stabilize the consumer and promote the recovery process. Program activities include: * Individual, group and family therapy * Case management and support services * Psychiatric evaluations and medication management services * Flexible treatment plans to ensure minimum interruption with daily activities * Illness management and relapse prevention groups * Development of wellness and recovery action plans
Program staff consists of New Jersey State licensed clinical social workers, a case manager and medical staff including psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses. Consumers may attend for a maximum three hours per day, four days per week for up to 90 days after which most are transitioned to a less intensive outpatient setting.
Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program - Provides treatment and education to substance abusers and their families, as well as those with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, with a strong emphasis on family participation. Urine screens are required for treatment. Services Offered:* Individual, group and family therapy * Concurrent mental health and substance abuse treatment services to consumers with both mental health and chemical dependency disorders * Attendance in self-help groups such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous is strongly encouraged
Heal, Empower, Rebuild (HER) Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Services Program - Open to pregnant and parenting women of Warren County who are experiencing issues related to substance abuse and want to attain and maintain a substance-free life. The HER program provides: * Individual, family and group therapy. The therapy utilized follows two evidence-based programs. A Woman's Path to Recovery is a therapeutic program to assist women in achieving and maintaining sobriety. The Seeking Safety program is an intensive therapeutic program to address issues of trauma in women. * Case management services assist the consumer in obtaining benefits to which they are entitled as well as maintaining critical services they are currently receiving. * Assistance is provided in obtaining appropriate medications as prescribed and maintaining that medication despite financial hardships. * Random and regular urine drug screens * Free transportation to maintain program obligations * Referral and linkage to childcare providers
The average length of stay in this program is 90 days after which most consumers will then be transitioned into a less intensive outpatient setting, either with outpatient substance abuse services or services that address a co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issue. Program staff consists of New Jersey State licensed substance abuse therapists, a part-time case manager, and medical staff consisting of psychiatrists and advanced practice psychiatric nurses. Medical staff provide psychiatric evaluations as well as medication management services.
Outpatient Sexual Abuse Treatment Program - Provides very high level skilled trauma treatment to the child victims of sexual abuse, as well as, to adult victims of child sexual abuse for whom that abuse is their primary present concern. Services provided by the program include: * Assessment and treatment planning * Counseling and case management to victims of child sexual abuse and their families * Psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring by medical staff if needed. * Individual and family therapy * Collaboration with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (if they are involved with the family) and the Warren County prosecutor's office. This allows therapeutic staff to assist the child throughout the prosecution process if a perpetrator is identified and charged. It is not uncommon for this court process to take two or more years. * Treatment for youth perpetrators
Senior In-Home Counseling Services Program - Provides outreach mental health services at no cost to Warren County senior citizens who are homebound and referred to our agency by the Warren County Division of Aging and Disability Services. Many of these individuals are socially isolated and unable to access community services. They may be impacted by a number of problems including depression, anxiety, family conflict and difficulty coping with life changes associated with aging. At times more serious problems are encountered which may include decreased cognitive functioning, inability to care for self or more serious mental illness. Services provided by the program include: * Comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments * Short term in-home individual and family counseling * Psychiatric evaluations * Competency assessments * Medication prescribing and management * Caregiver counseling * Referral and linkage to community services and resources * Continued treatment for those consumers in need of long term services
Evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy are utilized in this program to provide behavioral health services with a high rate of success. Services are provided in the older adults' home by our core program staff member who is dually licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
