Each year we grant Top Non-Profit Badges to agencies based on these criteria:
- Consistently accepting clients
- Offering a wide range of services e.g. marriage counseling and child counseling as reported by our users.
- Our users reporting affordable services.
Our aim is to guide our users to agencies most likely to be able to help. In addition to the above criteria we also exercise editorial discretion with our choice based upon our experience. We take our responsibility and objectivity seriously. We don't accept any form of payment from providers for this honor.

Drexel Psychological Services Center
The Drexel Psychological Services Center (PSC) is a training facility run by the Department of Psychology. The primary goal of the Center is to offer high-quality training to clinical psychology doctoral students at Drexel University. Additionally, it is our goal to provide cutting edge, scientifically informed treatments to Philadelphia and surrounding areas at affordable rates. Our Center also generates research related to the practice of psychology
The PSC is dedicated to providing high quality, accessible, and affordable psychological services to Philadelphia and surrounding areas. We provide confidential therapeutic and assessment services to individuals and families of all ages and compositions.
Mental health providers can use many different assessment and treatment approaches to help people who are suffering from mental health problems. However, not all assessments and treatments are equally effective at evaluating and/or addressing client concerns. Some just work better than others! When seeking out services, it is important to find a provider who will implement a protocol that has a proven history of success at addressing the concerns that you have. Your provider should draw on research, theory, practical experience, and your personal history to select an assessment and/or intervention that is based in theory and has undergone scientific evaluation.
Assessments are conducted on an individual basis. Our therapies may be offered in various formats such as individual therapy, group therapy or family therapy. Format will depend on what is most appropriate for the concerns of the clients as well as the treatment protocols being administered.
For most services, the PSC operates on a sliding scale fee schedule based on annual gross income and number of people supported by that income. There is a flat fee for forensic evaluations and basic testing to satisfy entrance criteria to educational programs when problems are not suspected. All other services are subject to our sliding fee schedule.
The PSC accepts cash, personal checks and credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, and Discover). Payment is due at the time of service.
We DO NOT accept medical insurance and are not on any insurance plans. While you are welcome to submit your receipt to your insurance company, please be advised that most insurance WILL NOT reimburse the cost of services when they are provided by trainees. Any receipt provided will indicate that the service was performed by trainees. We are different from "Out of Network" providers and our services are not typically covered by insurance companies. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.

Qualifying for assistance from Pennsylvania's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Pennsylvania's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
