Adult Services - There are many different types of mental illnesses that an individual can experience. Statistics report that one in four adults experience a mental illness in a given year. Sign of mental illness may include, sadness, anxiety, stress, mood swings, loss of interest, anger or withdrawal. If you or a loved one have been experiencing any signs and others, or are in need of assistance with everyday living skills, LMHC has a variety of services that can help you diagnose, treat and understand your illness.
Children Services - 1 in 5 children, ages 13â€18, have or will have a serious mental illness. Knowing this, it is important for parents, guardians, family members, teachers and/or others to watch for signs of mental illness in children. These changes can include withdrawal, sadness, anxiety symptoms, mood swings, excessive fear, loss of interest in activities they use to enjoy and/or even self harm to him or herself. If a change in their behavior is recognized, it should be addressed immediately. Talk with the child, parent/guardian, doctor, teacher and/or others who are involved in the child's care to discuss these behaviors.
Chemical Health Services - Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC)provides a full spectrum of outpatient services to adolescence and adults who have a substance use disorder or who have co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Services include confidential assessment, group and individual substance use treatment, counseling for mental health disorders, and psychiatric services.
Fees and Payment
Most insurance providers cover substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment. People who do not have insurance may qualify for financial assistance from their county's social services. We're also a non profit agency, for more information, check our About us page.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
