North Central Missouri Mental Health Center serves the nine counties of the Green Hills area. Since our inception in 1974, we have continued to provide comprehensive psychiatric and medication services, children and youth services, adult community psychiatric rehabilitation services, counseling services, parenting classes and groups such as anger management and men's/women's issues, as well as special topics as requested. North Central is also a Healthcare Home provider.

Children & Youth Services * Counseling/Therapy - Counseling may be provided by a therapist to help a child reduce behavioral symptoms and maximize strengths. Individual therapy involves the counselor meeting with the child/youth alone to reduce behavior problems and set goals for the young person. Family therapy involves the whole family.
Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation The team works with clients to prepare individual treatment plans directed to specific needs. Clients are encouraged and supported in their development of skills for successful living. * Individual Counseling - Clients may be referred to a therapist to discuss personal issues for growth and better function.
Comprehensive Psychiatric Services * Psychiatric Evaluation - The doctor or advanced practice nurse assesses relevant psychiatric issues and formulates a plan of care and treatment.
* Psychotherapy - Our qualified therapists help people address emotional and mental health issues.
Special Services * Marriage Counseling - Offers support and education to improve family life.
* Women's Group - Addresses therapeutic issues to facilitate personal growth.
* Anger Management Group - Facilitates learning how to express and channel anger positively.
Children and Youth Community Support Services * For ages 5-17 * Addresses behavioral challenges * Works with educators and other helpful services to meet your needs * Helps you find a psychiatrist or counselor
Substance Use Services Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders (ITCD) provides services for individuals with both a mental health and substance use diagnosis. Groups, education, and individual treatment are available to qualifying individuals to aid in recovery.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
