At Columbine Behavioral Healthcare (CBH), our care team takes an active role with you in your health and well-being. A variety of behavioral health professionals may be part of your care team, depending on your goals. Your care options:
Individual and group counseling: We offer a variety of therapeutic counseling services, including individual and group treatment, providing the opportunity to look at how you'd like to change your life, examine what holds you back and help to get to where you'd like to be. At your first appointment, you and your provider will determine together whether individual counseling, group counseling or a combination is the best method of treatment for you.
Substance use treatment: We have staff members who specialize in substance use disorder services and offer substance use treatment focused on helping you identify and change addictive patterns that impair your ability to thrive. Through our Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment program, participants look at how feelings of anxiety, grief, depression, sadness and even joy create situations where personal substance use may be unhealthy.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy: We have extensive experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Research has shown that DBT is effective in treating a wide range of issues, such as substance use, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and eating disorders. DBT involves: skills training groups, individual treatment, phone coaching and a consultation team. DBT develops a set of skills for mindfulness, stress management, tolerating painful situations, how to ask for what you want, creating boundaries and how to change the emotions you want to address.
Psychiatric care: We understand that behavioral health conditions may require medication as part of treatment. Our team includes medical providers who specialize in behavioral health and medication management to support your recovery.

Qualifying for assistance from Colorado's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Colorado's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
