Behavioral Health
Access Center for Outpatient Care At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we want to make it easy for patients with psychiatric problems to find the help they need. That's why we have an Access Center for Outpatient Care that can schedule appointments for our various behavioral health services, handle pre-insurance authorization and provide referrals.
Behavioral Medicine Research has shown that there is often a strong relationship between thought process and the ability to cope with physical health problems. At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we believe we can help patients more effectively manage their chronic illness and improve overall well-being. Chemical Dependency Services Overcoming a drug or alcohol addiction is a difficult process, but through careful evaluation and individual determination, it can be accomplished. At Atlantic Behavioral Health, our outpatient chemical dependency programs help adults and adolescents overcome substance abuse issues, while remaining at home, at school or on the job.
Child and Adolescent Services The behavioral health of children and adolescents is an ever-growing concern for parents and the community at large. That's why Atlantic Behavioral Health offers services specific to the needs of younger patients, giving them the opportunity to express their anxieties, develop coping skills and better deal with relationship issues.
Psychotherapy and Medication Management Our pediatric psychiatrists and licensed therapists provide children and teens with individual, group and family therapy. Counseling that includes parental and family involvement is central to our program and highly encouraged. Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Geriatric psychiatry is designed to address the specific difficulties faced by older adults, including higher incidences of depression, isolation and dependence on other family members. At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we provide services to improve the health and restore the quality of life of geriatric patients.
Psychotherapy and Medication Management Sometimes, in order to be effective, treatments for mental health conditions may require psychotherapy and medication management. At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we provide these services on an outpatient basis for patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders. Residential Services For those with persistent and severe mental illness, residential services provide a means of safe, affordable housing, accompanied by community-based psychiatric rehabilitation. At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we provide our residents with the support they need to develop social interactive skills and greater independence. Sexual Assault Program At Atlantic Behavioral Health, we believe that victims of sexual assault, as well as their loved ones, should receive specialized care in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
Crisis Intervention In the event of a psychiatric emergency, Atlantic Behavioral Health offers crisis intervention services, including a 24-hour hotline, risk assessments and screenings, and community trauma assistance.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
