Vanderbilt Behavioral Health
Vanderbilt Behavioral Health offers highly specialized and personalized care for children, teens and adults. We provide a range of outpatient and inpatient services. Vanderbilt Behavioral Health is the only provider of inpatient mental health services for children in Middle Tennessee.
Adult Programs
We understand that every person is different, so we offer personalized care for your needs. Our adult programs treat patients 18 and older (teens should be high school graduates or living on their own).
We offer treatment programs for specific needs including: -Addictions -Inpatient mental health care -Mood disorders -Outpatient mental health care -Partial hospitalization program -Psychotic disorders -Behavioral concerns for medical professionals and business executives
Adolescent Program
We offer care services to adolescents ages 13-17, who have emotional or behavioral problems. We also have board-certified adolescent psychiatrists who can manage each patients treatment.
We use both individual and group sessions to help teens heal and learn positive behaviors. We also give patients and their families an aftercare plan to help continue progress after leaving the hospital.Inpatient/Outpatient Treatment Our new ECT/TMS suite allows us to provide these services for inpatients and outpatients under the same roof. We have expanded our visiting hours for patients.
Outpatient program for adolescents
Our outpatient clinics offer counseling to individuals and families who need help dealing with psychotic disorders, life transitions, abuse and depression. At the Village at Vanderbilt, we can assess your teen, provide psychotherapy treatment and help children adjust after leaving the hospital
Teens can also be seen in our integrated Mental Health Center, which includes therapists, nurse practitioners and child psychiatry fellows.
If your teen is suffering from a psychotic disorder, our First Episode Program can identify and treat these disorders. We offer both inpatient and outpatient care, and we accept most insurance plans.

Patients who do not have insurance or have limited insurance benefits and receive treatment at a VUMC facility may be eligible for financial assistance under our financial assistance policy. Financial hardship is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
