Co-Occurring Disorders - Tubman's Co-Occurring Disorders (COD) outpatient program is a licensed treatment program for adult women who have both chemical dependency (drugs or alcohol) and mental health concerns. The COD outpatient program includes two treatment options: a Day program and an Evening program. Participants are placed in either the Day or the Evening program based on their needs and schedule. Some of the components of the program are: * Both individual chemical health and mental health counseling/therapy * Treatment group
A chemical health (Rule 25) assessment is required to enter the COD program. These can be done at Tubman's Chrysalis Center. Referrals from other agencies are accepted. The COD program is available at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Parenting Group - Parenting Group provides guidance, training and support to women raising children. This group is a required part of Co-Occurring Disorder treatment. Day and evening meeting times are available, and the meetings will take place at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy - This Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program offers group and individual DBT services to people who want to learn how to take control of emotional aspects of their lives. Participants become more aware of their emotions and learn about and develop skills to manage their emotional reactions and responses to difficult situations. This program is a MN DHS certified program, and individual therapy with a MN DHS certified therapist is required while involved in our DBT program. This state-certified DBT program includes individual therapy and group therapy for individuals who want to develop skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. We offer two all-gender/inclusive groups and two groups for clients who identify as female. Beginning in September 2018, we are starting a Queer DBT program that includes trauma-informed skills group and individual dialectical behavior therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals who are struggling with intense emotions, difficult relationships, and self-defeating behaviors. This therapy is offered at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Mixed-Issues Therapy Group - The mixed-issues therapy group is a long-term, on-going, psychotherapy process group for women experiencing a variety of concerns. The group focuses on interpersonal and relationship concerns, trauma-history, recognition of maladaptive habits, and self-care. Individuals can use this group to increase their life satisfaction through improving coping skills and professional and personal relationship skills. This group is held at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Trauma Skills Group - This psycho-educational therapy group is a closed 12-week group for individuals who want to learn and practice skills to manage and reduce the symptoms and disturbances to daily life caused by traumatic experiences. There is one group for women and one group for men. Individuals can use this group to address trauma from their past or present. This group focuses on symptom management rather than processing trauma.
Individuals interested in this group must be seeing a therapist for individual therapy before starting this group. A Trauma Process group is also available as a next level of care. This group meets at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Trauma Processing Group - This therapy group is an ongoing process group for women who have completed the Trauma Skills Group. Women interested in the Trauma Processing Group must be referred by the facilitators and be seeing a therapist for individual therapy before starting this group. This group meets at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.
Women's Depression Group - This therapy group focuses on understanding and living with major depression. Participants learn how major depression affects women physiologically and psychologically, how to identify their own specific symptoms, and a variety of skills to manage those symptoms. This group meets at Tubman's Chrysalis Center.

Qualifying for assistance from Minnesota's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Minnesota's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
