Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County (JFS) is a nonprofit organization serving everyone who lives in Middlesex County and the surrounding environs. Jewish Family Services is committed to helping individuals and families realize a fulfilling life experience at home, in the workplace, and in the community by providing effective social services, counseling, and advocacy through responsive, innovative programs.
Services Offered
A wide variety of family and mental health problems are addressed by the counseling services offered by JFS to children, adolescents, adults, seniors and families. Services include psychosocial assessment, all the varying and different types of counseling services, educational workshops, and support groups, such as our Bereavement group, along with pre and post adoption services.
Personal Growth & Family Counseling Professional JFS therapists provide counseling and support for adults, children, adolescents, and families dealing with a wide range of issues at our Personal Growth and Family Counseling Center. Services include one-on-one counseling, consultation and referrals, group counseling and support groups, and marriage counseling. Adoption counseling, education, home study and post placement services are also available. Services are licensed by the NJ Department of Human Services
JRecovery Support Group A Jewish Self-Help Group to complement 12-Step Programs, sponsored by Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County, JRecovery meets every Monday, 7:30 - 8:30PM in our Milltown office at 32 Ford Avenue, Second Floor. The purpose of the group is to support recovery from various addictions using spiritual insights from Jewish tradition by nurturing the spiritual needs of those with active addictions or in recovery, and their families and friends. Individuals who attend may suffer from alcoholism or drug addiction, gambling, overeating, sexual addiction, and other addictions. Meetings are often attended by their relatives and loved ones together or on their own. Group discussions focus on the challenges of recovery. Participants' anonymity is protected.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
