Case Management - Case management is one of the many services available to adults and children enrolled in behavioral health services at CHI. The case management services team has two main objectives: advocacy and linkage to services. Patients who are enrolled in case management are often times in the process of overcoming mental health or substance abuse problems and are in need of an advocate to assist them in their day to day lives. Case management can help patients with a number of needs such as: housing, vocational, benefits reinstatement, medical, mental health, medication management, linkage to community resources and more. The goal is to help patients become independent and self-sufficient in the community. Case management also assists with getting social security disability insurance.

PSR focuses on several areas including: medication use and compliance, independent living, social skills training, housing, vocational and employment rehabilitation, social support and network enhancement, structured activities, symptom management, treatment options, money management, maintenance of living environment and assimilation into the community. PSR services are commonly utilized for patients who are coming out of crisis events. However, services are available to all behavioral health patients. Patients are encouraged to gradually decrease the amount of weekly visits to PSR up until the time that they no longer need services.
Crisis Stabilization/Detox Unit (CSU) CHI - operates a 16-bed Crisis Stabilization/Detox Unit for the most severe cases of mental illness and substance abuse. CSU staff works with the individual as well as family and other care providers within behavioral health and external agencies. The CSU is a short-term acute psychiatric receiving facility, open seven days a week and 24 hours each day at the Doris Ison Health Center.
Behavioral Health Consultants - serve as a liaison for both Behavioral Health and Family Medicine departments. The consultants are responsible for screening both insured and uninsured patients in our Family Medicine unit for depression, anxiety, substance abuse or any other related mental health condition. They provide brief individual therapy and counseling, recommendations, as well as referring the patient for other services needed. Although our main focus is those patients we serve in our Family Medicine unit, we also reach out to other departments that request our intervention. Qualifying for assistance from Florida's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Florida's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
