Services Offered
Outpatient Treatment - Guidance/Care Center (GCC) provides community based psychiatric services, prevention services, intervention services, outpatient treatment, and aftercare services. Services address a variety of needs that include the following: situational stressors, family relations, interpersonal relationships, addictions, needs of victims of abuse, domestic violence or other trauma, medication management, parenting skills, and other issues that impact daily living and the ability to cope.

Prevention and School-Based Services - Guidance/Care Center (GCC) provides school based services through the services of Life Skill Counselors with offices at Coral Shores and Key West High Schools. School based services also include mobile school counselors who travel to other schools and prevention programs. These counselors can address mental health issues, substance abuse issues and those at risk of substance abuse. Teachers, guidance counselors, school resource officers, parents, and children themselves may refer for services. Eligibility Criteria: Students enrolled in Monroe County Schools.
Detoxification Services - The Detoxification Unit is a licensed service provider under the Marchman Act that uses pharmacotherapy and counseling to assist clients in managing toxicity and withdrawal from the effects of substance abuse impairment. The medically monitored program provides 24/7 medical and nursing supervision to help the withdrawal from alcohol and/or other drugs in a safe manner. The staff focuses on the absence of withdrawal symptoms, stability of vital signs, and the education of the client. Detoxification is individualized and length of stay is dependent on the substance, however, the stay is usually from 3-5 days. The Detox Unit is licensed by the Florida Department of Children (DCF) and Families.
Fees and Payment
GCC serves all clients regardless of inability to pay. Discounts for essential services are offered based on family size and income.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
