CAMHS is a not for profit organization located in the geographical area of Haldimand and Norfolk Counties in Ontario's "South Coast" on the north shore of Lake Erie in Southwestern Ontario. We are a multi-site health care community agency funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care through the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network responding to individuals who have mental health or addictions concerns.
Services Offered
Crisis Assessment and Support Team The Crisis Assessment and Support Team (CAST) is a 24 hour mental health crisis service for people age 16 years and older. The team is made up of clinicians specializing in mental health/addiction service.Services Offered: * 24 hour phone line offering crisis assessment and support, education, and direction to community resources * Face to Face crisis assessment and support of individuals admitted in an emergency department of Haldimand and Norfolk counties * Crisis assessment and support of individuals urgently referred to CAMHS * Face to Face short-term crisis counselling and referral to appropriate community service as required
Wellness and Recovery Centre The Centre is structured with peer support at its core and foundation. Mental Health Peer Support is a relationship where an individual who has undergone, or is moving forward in their personal journey of recovery from, a mental illness assists other people with mental health issues to identify and achieve life goals as part of their own recovery process. It is about the sharing of life's experiences, listening with understanding, and making connections based on common or shared life experiences and living with an illness.

Addiction Program The Addiction Program of CAMHS Haldimand-Norfolk provides community-based, client-focused services for alcohol, drug and gambling concerns for people of all ages.Services Offered: * Prevention and awareness education * Assessment * Individual counselling * Groups * Referrals to other community agencies and resources * Referrals to day or residential treatment programs
Adult Program The Adult Mental Health Program provides community-based, client-focused services for people age 16 years and over who have mental health or concurrent (mental health and addictions) concerns.Services Offered: * Assessment * Treatment through individual counselling, group treatment, medication or a combination of treatments as appropriate * Referrals to, or partnering with, other community agencies and resources * Education and advocacy
Generally the structure of counselling will be strength-based, solution-focused therapy of approximately eight sessions aiding in a person's journey of recovery.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
