Specific Programs/Services Offered: 24 hour Emergency/Crisis intervention and hospital prescreening.
Substance Use Services
*Screening for and referrals to detoxification, residential treatment, and halfway house/sober housing services within our region and, when necessary, in other areas of the state. *Services for women using substances include group counseling, case management, and screening and referral for detoxification, residential treatment, and halfway house/sober housing services. *All other individuals using substances intravenously or who are using opiates by any method will receive priority services and/or be referred to other providers of services within 14 days of a request for services. These services may include screening and referral for detoxification, residential treatment or halfway houses, group counseling for women, and screening for appropriate counseling for persons 18 years of age or younger.
- Case-Management services for adults with serious mental illness, for children with or at-risk of serious emotional disturbance, for children of woman with substance use disorders, and for adults and youth with intellectual disabilities.
- Psychiatric and Nurse Practitioner medication management services as connected to case management. Nursing and patient medication assistance services.
- Intensive In-Home Therapy Services for Youth
- In-Home Respite Care Services for persons with intellectual disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Vocational and Prevocational Day Support/Activity services for persons with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities;
- Psychosocial Day Support Programs for persons with serious and persistent mental illness (Sunshine House in New Market).
- Community-Based, In-Home Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) for persons with serious mental illness;
- Home-based Infant-Toddler case management services for youth 0-3 with developnental disabilities.
- Bright Beginnings early educational program for infants & toddlers with special needs. Theraputic playground on site.
- Prevention and Early Intervention Programs to educate the community about risk factors for substance use, mental illness, emotional disturbance, intellectual disabilities and/or developmental disabilities, and other disorders.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
