Maple Counseling Center
The mission of The Maple Counseling Center (TMCC) is to provide low cost comprehensive mental health services to individuals of all ages, couples, and families throughout Los Angeles County.
Children, Adolescent and Family Programs
Therapy for Children and Adolescents - At The Maple Counseling Center, children and adolescents are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of developmental issues. Our youngest clients learn to express their needs and tackle developmental challenges related to separation, individuation, and school readiness. They gain the necessary skills to have healthy peer and family relationships. Adolescents utilize therapy to address challenges with self-esteem, peer relationships, school and academic difficulties, depression and anxiety, and strained and dysfunctional family relationships.
Family Therapy - Parents and children are seen together in counseling to strengthen bonds, improve communication, and develop more effective problem solving strategies. Contemporary families are faced with a myriad of stressors, including financial uncertainties, academic and developmental struggles, and communication breakdowns. Family therapy can help family members find more productive ways to interact and reestablish satisfying relationships.
Preschool Mental Health Consultation and Early Intervention Program - Addresses the mental health needs of children between the ages of two and five experiencing challenges in the classroom setting. Services are offered at community-based sites including those that target underserved populations impacted by poverty, homelessness, trauma, family dysfunction, mental illness, and substance use. TMCC associates and trainees observe, identify, and address behavior challenges and provide intervention strategies. They help the preschool program staff better understand how to handle child-specific issues, and identify concerns and helpful intervention strategies. Counselors help staff learn how to address behavior challenges, considering each child's living environment and family history. At certain community-based sites, parenting classes and parenting support groups are available.
School Based Services - Associates and trainees provide onsite individual and group counseling sessions to local elementary, middle and high school students. Students present with a variety of concerns, including academic struggles, social and peer challenges, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and drug and alcohol experimentation. Our associates and trainees meet with students weekly to provide a safe and nurturing counseling experience, allowing them to work through the many challenges of childhood and adolescence.
Adult Programs
Individuals - Individuals from all over Los Angeles County rely on The Maple Counseling Center because of its outstanding reputation as a quality provider of low cost mental health services. Issues such as depression, anxiety, relationships, grief or loss, eating disorders, and addiction are addressed in a therapeutic setting.
Couples Counseling - The Maple Counseling Center is also known for its Couples Therapy Program. Couples meet in a private therapeutic setting to discuss their relationship issues with trained counselors. Through couples counseling, couples learn how to communicate more effectively, have a better understanding of their partners, and become a more cohesive family unit.
Groups - The Maple Center offers a variety of ongoing, insight-oriented therapy groups. Currently, we have mixed groups for men and women, a women's group, and a therapy group for gay men. These groups can be a potent and transformative addition to individual therapy, as well as a rich healing experience on their own.
When you join a group at the Center you receive the benefits of individual therapy, plus much more. You will have the opportunity to work on life issues in a safe and supportive environment, you will learn more about yourself and others in ways that can enhance your life, and you will have the opportunity to practice new and better ways of relating with others.
Our groups are led by skilled clinical associates and trainees who are receiving special training and supervision in group therapy, in addition to their training in individual therapy.

One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
Qualifying for assistance from California's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to California's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
