The Nord Center is a private agency providing comprehensive behavioral and mental health services to children, adolescents and adults in the greater Lorain County area.
Services Offered
Adult Services - As the only comprehensive provider of mental health services for adults in Lorain County, The Nord Center can tailor a plan of care that meets the needs of individual clients. The variety of treatment, rehabilitation, and residential services available gives clients choices about the help they need and want. Our team approach enables each person to benefit from the combined services of professionals who provide the kind of coordination, backup, and supervision that may not be possible in other settings. Psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed independent social workers, counselors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, and mental health professionals work together to provide the best care possible.
Child & Adolescent Services - In a society focused on self-sufficiency, it can be difficult for families to recognize and acknowledge when their child needs help. Identifying the problem early and seeking assistance immediately is extremely important and can make the difference between a child who overcomes a problem and one who is overcome by it.
The following options are available through The Nord Center and may be incorporated into your child or adolescent's individualized service plan: * Individual and Group Counseling * Family Counseling * Community Psychiatric Support Services * Triple P Positive Parenting Program * Play Therapy * Family Systems Approach * Dialectical Behavioral Therapy * Psychiatric Care * Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy
The following groups are available for active clients: * Anger Management Group (Tuesday evenings from 5:00-6:00 pm) * Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Group (Wednesday evenings from 5-6:30 pm)
Addiction Services - Provided to both adolescents and adults, including assessments, individual counseling, pre-treatment engagement groups, intensive out-patient group counseling, family and aftercare sessions and/or referrals. Innovative therapeutic programs are also available that are designed to provide integrated (mental health and chemical dependency) approaches and recovery-driven services for individuals suffering from co-existing substance abuse and mental illness. The Nord Center does not provide detox or inpatient addiction services.
Sexual Assault Services - The Nord Center's Sexual Assault Services (SAS) is staffed by a compassionate, qualified team of professionals who provide a safe and caring environment to survivors of rape, incest, sexual abuse and sexual assault. Service includes emotional support and counseling.
Fees and Payment
The Nord Center accepts most insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare. Insurance coverage varies, so it is best to check with your insurance provider to determine eligibility for coverage. Self-pay services are also available on a sliding fee scale based on household income, however our Addiction Services program does require insurance coverage. Funds are also available for those without insurance who qualify.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
