Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center was formed in 1996 as part of the Western Placer Unified School District (WPUSD) serving only families with children attending WPUSD. In 2005, Lighthouse became a separate 501c3 non-profit which allowed Lighthouse to expand its services and serve more families in the Lincoln area. Continually expanding its reach across Placer County, today Lighthouse is a full-service Counseling & Family Resource Center serving approximately 3,000 Placer County residents each year. Lighthouse's reputation for providing quality services to individuals and families in need continues to grow and over time has received numerous awards.

Services Offered
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) - This therapy model is the most nationally recognized and research backed therapy model in existence. It targets a specific traumatic event that may be causing anxiety and/or depression for the identified person. While this model was originally developed for children, the Lighthouse has expanded its use to adolescents and adults.
Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT) - The premise of this therapy model is that when the dynamics in the relationships with each parent child dyad is treated, then the depression or presenting issue affecting the identified child will be significantly reduced.
Couples (with children) Counseling - This emotionally focused therapy is designed to help couples by strengthening their adult relationships by deescalating destructive cycles and by creating and integrating healthy interaction patterns. In turn, participants will increase their cooperative parenting skills, reduce postpartum symptoms and/or minimize domestic violence risk factors.
Postpartum Depression and Anxiety Counseling (PPD) - Postpartum Depression and Anxiety are more than just "the baby blues". When sadness or worry does not go away on its own, a parent or family may need assistance with these more serious challenges. These are two real and treatable problems. Each has a set of symptoms that can significantly affect a woman, a man and their family during pregnancy or any time after birth up through five years.
Domestic Violence Therapy - Lighthouse works with individuals, couples and their children in non-acute, non-active domestic violence situations. Domestic Violence Therapy helps victims transform into survivors and couples improve relational health by establishing a safety plan. The plan includes identifying maladaptive traits and how to deescalate potentially violent situations early. The survivors learn how to manage individual fear, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and are taught empowerment tactics such as, setting boundaries and assertiveness skills.
Victims of Crime (VOC) - Lighthouse offers services to victims and witnesses of all types of crimes. Services include all that Lighthouse has to offer with a strong emphasis on case management and counseling to address trauma, depression and anxiety.
Differential Response (DR) - Lighthouse receives referrals from Child Protective Services to provide family maintenance or reunification services through family counseling, co-parenting counseling, and child trauma counseling. Child play, sand tray, and art therapy with children may also be utilized within the scope of DR.
Therapeutic Group Classes
Managing Your Emotions (MYE) - MYE group participants focus on developing skills in distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. The group is applied and interactive, using evidence-based Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Each group is 12 weeks in duration, with 1.5-hour sessions.
Road to Wellness (RTW) - RTW is designed for adults and teens experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, anger, sleep disorders, fatigue, guilt or other feelings affecting their mental health and well-being. Road to Wellness groups are based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which helps individuals explore patterns of thinking that lead to self-destructive actions. Additionally, individuals learn to modify their patterns of thinking to improve their coping skills. Each group is 12 weeks in duration, with 1.5-hour sessions.
Women's Empowerment (WE) - WE is designed to help individuals gain self-esteem and develop a healthy lifestyle and support system through group sessions. It is an open-class which allows participants to join/participate anytime throughout its course. It has a structured curriculum and at times guest speakers. Teaching Pro-Social Skills (TPS) - TPS is a ten week - two times per week - curriculum facilitated by our counselors at school sites. TPS helps children and adolescents improve their social skills, cope more effectively with anger management, and promote moral reasoning.

Qualifying for assistance from California's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to California's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
