SWLA Center for Health Services, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community-based organization, incorporated in 1978. As a recipient of a 330 CHC grant, the Center began receiving Bureau of Primary Health Care funding in 1984. The Center operates facilities in Lake Charles, Lafayette, Crowley and Oberlin, Louisiana.

Behavioral Health at SWLA SWLA "New Leaf" Behavioral Health provides clinical insights, coping strategies and medicines to assist individuals experiencing difficulty managing the stresses of 21st century American family life. Evidence-based clinical strategies employ both medicine and psychotherapies to improve personal well-being and healthy management of social interactions.
Evidence-based strategies utilize testing for ADD and ADHD, Dementia, Mood, and Psychotic disorders; uniform testing results help guide the creation of highly individualized medication regimens and psychotherapeutic strategies. Analyses of successful strategies are applied to future treatments.
New client interviews, medication management and psychotherapy sessions all occur in private modern environments. Patient information is electronically secured in our EHR system. All clientele have monthly visits with a Psychiatrist and/or Psychiatric NP for medication management or psychotherapy sessions.
* Patients without insurance are charged according to their household income.
* Patients with insurance can receive discounts on non-covered services, co-pays and deductibles based on their household income.
* Medicare patients' annual deductible is waived and co-payment/coinsurance can also be waived based on patient's ability to pay. Medicare patients can also receive discounts on non-covered based on their household income.
* Patients without prescription drug coverage can receive reduced costs at our pharmacy and some patients can receive free or reduced prescription drug costs through various prescription assistance programs.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
