Services Offered
Wellness and Recovery Community Center - Provides an opportunity for people to direct their own recovery and advocacy process and to help others develop skills to lead meaningful lives. Services are focused on mental health and substance use disorders and help foster individual growth by having people feel comfortable with themselves, develop a sense of identity with support from others and establish a sense of self-determination.
The center is open 5 days a week. The program operates Tuesday, Thursday from 12:00pm to 8:30pm, Wednesday and Friday from 1:00pm to 8:30pm, and Saturday from 9:30am to 6:00pm. You can "drop in" any time during those hours and stay as you like. There is no requirement to drop by, other than you must be 18 or older, diagnosed with a mental illness, and have a strong desire to learn and share with peers. We also invite family and friends to attend for special groups, presentations, and activities.
In addition to the above, beginning July 1, 2018, a Double Trouble in Recovery (DTR) group will be held Thursdays from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and Saturdays from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. DTR has been adapted from the Twelve Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous and is designed to meet the needs of people who, in addition to having a substance use disorder, have also been diagnosed with a mental health disorder (often referred to as a "dual diagnosis".)

One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
