Adolescent Individual and Family Therapy - Because the life of a teenager can often seem pretty turbulent from the outside, it can be difficult to figure out whether or not a parent should be worried. This is why we offer both individual and family adolescent services here at Genesis Therapy Center. We have over 30 years of experience serving families and children, and we want to help you and your teen through adolescence. One of the most effective techniques we use in adolescent family therapy is referred to as a "Family Systems" approach. This style of therapy is based upon the idea that our families are the largest influences we have in our lives, and the interactions we have with family members significantly shape who we are and who we will become. In family therapy, the therapist takes a leadership role and attempts to address family issues using a variety of different techniques, with the overall goal being a restructured family with a definitive hierarchy. For close-knit families, this may mean an establishment of boundaries and an encouragement of individual pursuits, while less engaged families are pushed to break down some of their individual boundaries and work together as a unit.
Child Individual and Family Therapy - When it comes to the treatment of children, we offer options that are developmentally appropriate for different age groups. You wouldn't expect an adult and a child to be treated in the same way, and the same goes for different age levels in children. When applicable, we work with children by using art and play therapies, with a focus on interactive activities to keep them engaged in the therapy process. Above all, we use a Family Systems-based approach to child therapy, which is built on the idea that the interaction between family members-as well as their patterns of communication-have significant effects on how children grow up. At the core of a Family Systems style of therapy is one goal: restructuring the family and building a hierarchy that establishes the parents as being in charge. Some other goals include encouraging individual growth and acceptance for close families while discouraging the rigid boundaries that often separate members of disengaged families.

Were You Able To Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
