La Clinica del Pueblo is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and Federally Qualified Health Center with over 90 employees and 50 volunteers dedicated to its mission "to build a healthy Latino community through culturally appropriate health services, focusing on those most in need." Founded in 1983 as a free health clinic for Latino immigrants recently displaced by conflict, today La Clinica is known throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area as a dependable source of integrated health care and health education for over 8,000 men, women and children.

For La Clinica's patients, the trauma of the immigration experience and the stress of making ends meet in challenging economic times can produce tremendous pressure on families in the Latino community.
Responding to our community's needs, we provide: - Individual, couple, and family counseling services for a broad range of psychological problems - Psycho-educational support groups, through our program Mi Familia - Comprehensive outpatient substance abuse treatment services are available in our program Volviendo a Vivir, including support groups and referrals to detoxification and residential programs - Mental health services at our school-based program for youth at Northwestern High School, through our program Mi Refugio
Fees and Payment
As a federally qualified health center (FQHC), we do not deny patients based on their ability to pay. This cost is calculated on a sliding fee scale according to the income and number of dependents of the patient.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
