The purpose of the New Bedford Child and Family Service is to strengthen family life. Counseling service is available to any family or individual with a family difficulty or personal problem. The Agency provides also temporary foster home care and adoption placement of children. Child & Family Services is a private, nonprofit, human service agency that provides adoption services, mental health counseling, psychiatry and specialized support programs to people of all ages living in Greater New Bedford, Fall River, and Cape Cod.

Services Offered

Outreach & Counseling - Whether it is children exposed to abuse or violence, families coping with mental illness, or matching children with mentors or loving adoptive families, Child & Family Services is there to support, guide and heal. The agency's programs serve more than 18,000 people each year-including individuals and families facing some of life's most distressing challenges. Behind each program are dedicated staff who offer light and guidance to those in need during their darkest hours, in the hope to strengthen them for better times.

Psychiatry - Child & Family Services has psychiatrists that devote their time and knowledge to helping the people in our community. We have staff that is bilingual and bi-cultural, specializing in adult, child, and geriatric psychiatry. Our physicians provide their services in New Bedford, Fall River and Cape Cod.

Adult and Child Clinic-Based Counseling - Clinic-Based counseling is provided in New Bedford at 543 North Street and 1061 Pleasant Street. Both locations offer individual counseling to children, adolescents, and adults as well as family and couples therapy. Counselors have earned advanced professional degrees in either psychology or social work and are licensed or working towards licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Additionally, counselors receive ongoing training and continuing education to help individuals work through a variety of challenges utilizing a full range of therapeutic interventions as well as collaboration with supports.

School-Based Therapy Services - Schools are in a unique position to identify students who may be in need of emotional support. Child & Family, in cooperation with local school districts, provides clinical services on-site within New Bedford and surrounding communities. School-based services allow the clinician and the school to work together to address the complex needs of the students and their families in a setting that is both familiar and comfortable for students.

Fees and Payment

Most insurance providers are accepted here at Child & Family. The most commonly accepted insurances include Medicare, Mass Health, BMC, NHP, Network Health, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Harvard Pilgrim/UBH/PacifiCare. Some reduced fees (very limited) based on a sliding scale. We are also a nonprofit agency.
