Services Offered
Intensive Outpatient Therapy - This is an intensive program tract that is dedicated to kick start the recovery process. It will address the person as a whole and not just the addiction. We would like for our clients to receive a sense of structure and responsibility while also allowing the freedom of a non-inpatient setting. This therapy option is for individuals who have recently relapsed but do not require a medically supervised detoxification or inpatient. The program is designed to allow an individual to attend 3 hour sessions at 3 times a week and lasts up to 5-10 weeks. Included in the program is a weekly individual counseling session and there are consistent urinary drug testing's so clients can receive a sense of accountability.
Couples Counseling - In-depth counseling sessions with both the couple and an individual counselor. We work through the problems that can be associated with a relationship or marriage while working to repair and build a stronger bond.
Individual Counseling - Each session lasts 50 minutes and is a time where the client can discuss the individual needs to help progress them in therapy. Together the client and counselor will formulate a personalized treatment plan to guide the treatment process. Clients will learn to reach short-term goals while progressing to the long-term goal of recovery.
Youth Programming - Our program is effective for clients who have used alcohol and/or other drugs and are also acting out as shown by reports from family, school or court. It includes random urinary drug screens and would refer to a counselor as needed. We use the Living with Honor material so that we can establish or re-build a strong foundation while addressing Substance Abuse and Mental Health issues. Youth education classes as well as full treatment options are available.
Group Therapy - Each of our group therapy sessions last 1.5 hours and consists of the material needed to obtain/maintain a sober lifestyle. We have gender specific groups which allow clients to have a sense of camaraderie and understanding. We also have a co-occurring specific group that focuses on the mental health disorders that can sometimes happen when living in long term addiction/drug dependence. All group therapy sessions allow clients to learn how to effectively translate healthy conflict resolution and communication skills to other clients.

Qualifying for assistance from Tennessee's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to Tennessee's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
