Services Offered
Adult Counseling & Mental Health Treatment - Our outpatient treatment programs provide services that include, but are not limited to, individual and group therapy, family counseling, psycho-educational and psychotherapy, and are defined services that may vary in level of intensity. PORT Health's adult outpatient programs utilize evidence-based approaches to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Alcohol & Substance Use Treatment * Medication Assisted Therapy - Medication Assisted Therapy provides care to people struggling with addiction to opiate based substances. MAT is a medical procedure of replacing an illicit or addicting opioid, with a longer acting but less euphoric opioid; Methadone or Buprenorphine are two commonly used drugs and are taken under medical supervision. The overall purpose behind using an opioid substitution drug is its capacity to assist the patient in gaining stability. It also provides the opportunity for the substance user to experience a reduced level of withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings while not producing the euphoric effects often experienced with illicit drug use. * Facility-Based Crisis - PORT Health strives to deliver integrated treatment in an effective and seamless manner - from early crisis stabilization to acute symptom management, to counseling, to medication-assisted treatment (MAT). We use a patient-centered approach to create individualized treatment plans using our most up-to-date evidence-based practices. * Intensive Outpatient Program - Intensive Outpatient programs are structured individual, family, and group activities that are provided in an outpatient setting. This time-limited, multi-faceted service is designed to assist adults to begin recovery and learn skills for recovery maintenance and includes linkage to community resources and supports.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
