*PSYCHIATRY Adults and Children We offer a wide range of psychiatric services. Our board-certified/board eligible psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioner provide psychiatric evaluations and/or consultations for a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns for children, adolescents, and adults.
*Adult Counseling We provide counseling, therapy and group therapy on an outpatient basis to treat individuals and families with a wide range of emotional, social and psychiatric needs using evidence-based therapies. Case management and community navigation services also provide linkage to other services in the community. If medication is needed, our psychiatrists can help, with easy access to the Outer Cape Health pharmacies.
*Individual counseling and therapy Professional therapy and counseling are treatments that can improve your mental wellness. These treatments can help people who are experiencing emotional or behavior problems or a mental health disorder. Therapy is often used in combination with prescription medication for mental health disorders. Therapy will usually improve results achieved by medication alone. Therapy is more than just talking about your problems. Therapy can teach new ways to think about the situations that bother you. It can help you cope with feelings and situations. It can help with feelings of anger, fear, anxiety, shyness, and panic. It also can provide tools and skills to help fight low self-esteem and depression. *Couples Counseling Couples counseling focuses on identifying conflicts within a relationship and deciding what changes are needed in the relationship and in the behavior of each partner, with the goal that both parties will feel satisfied with the relationship. Couples therapy involves learning how to communicate more effectively and how to listen more closely. Couples learn how to avoid competing with each other and to identify common life goals and how to share responsibilities within their relationship. *Child & Adolescent Counseling Board-eligible Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners provide psychiatric evaluations or consultations for a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns. Following a comprehensive assessment the psychiatrist will discuss treatment options for your child or adolescent, including recommendations for therapy (individual, family, or group) and medication.
*Substance Use & Addiction Treatment Individuals who are struggling with opioid use disorders involving such substances as heroin, morphine, and other prescription painkillers may benefit from treatment such as our Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) program.
OBOT is a form of medication assisted treatment (MAT). Our OBOT care involves the use of medications such as Suboxone and Vivitrol to eliminate the drug cravings and painful withdrawal symptoms that typically occur when an opioid-dependent individual stops using his or her substance of abuse. OBOT also includes a therapeutic behavioral health component, frequently in the form of group counseling, to help achieve and sustain long-term recovery.

If You Call, Please Let Us Know How it Went:
Were You Able to Make an Appointment?
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
