Services Offered
Outpatient Therapy HRCSB offers outpatient therapy with licensed professional clinicians for adults and children. Therapists utilize evidence-based practices to support individuals and families that are struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Client-Centered Treatments Our client-centered treatments provide individualized, need based, and strength based therapy. Our licensed professional therapists are trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and play therapy. We are equipped to assess and diagnose mental health and substance abuse issues and work with you to determine the proper treatment goals and outcomes.
Recovery Support through Therapeutic Groups HRCSB offers therapeutic groups for adults that meet regularly to facilitate participants' recovery in their community. Licensed, trained professionals facilitate evidence-based curriculum for a set number of meetings. Groups are limited to a moderate number of participants to ensure adequate attention is given to each individual. Therapeutic groups are often part of an overall course of outpatient treatment. HRCSB also offers a limited number of Spanish-speaking groups.
Serving our Veterans through the Virginia Wounded Warrior program The Virginia Wounded Warrior Program is a partnership between the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and Community Service Boards throughout Virginia. The program is a resource to disabled veterans on their road to recovery from the effects of stress-related injuries. HRCSB participates in the Wounded Warrior Project by providing outpatient counseling services to disabled veterans to address behavioral health and substance use issues.
Develop Skills To Keep Your Family Together With Foster Care Prevention Services Our goal is to keep families together in our community. The HRCSB administers a grant-funded program providing substance abuse treatment and therapy to parents of children who are at risk of being removed to the foster care system. We provide services both in our offices and in the home to support recovery.

Behavioral Health Wellness & Prevention At Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Service Board, we are passionate about making mental health and substance abuse prevention an important component of the services we provide to our community.
Our Behavioral Health Wellness team works to promote protective factors such as effective parenting, community involvement, and to decrease the risk factors of truancy and early initiation of first time alcohol or drug use. Our goal is to help build healthy youth, families, and communities in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham area. Utilizing the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), our team assesses the needs related to substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion in our community.
Infant and Toddler Services Early identification for developmental delays is crucial. If infant delays are evident, the best outcomes happen with early intervention. Early Intervention is a collection of services provided by public and private agencies that enhance the growth and development of infants and toddlers with developmental delays.
We provide a comprehensive, collaborative, coordinated, family-centered system of early intervention services in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for eligible children.
If you suspect developmental delays, we are here to help caregivers every step of the way. We provide free developmental screenings and assessments to determine need for service.
Psychiatric Services HRCSB Provides Psychiatric Services As Part of The Recovery Process Psychiatric Services provide medication management in conjunction with a mental health treatment team. In addition to a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, the treatment team can include case management, therapy, supportive services, and psychosocial rehabilitation services.
Substance Abuse Services Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board cares about providing the right level of care to any client who is struggling with substance abuse. To reach this goal we work with each client to develop an individualized plan for treatment as well as using an assessment tool designed by American Society of Addiction Medicine, or ASAM. Utilizing the ASAM assessment, and through the cooperative treatment planning process, clients will be invited to participate in the level of care to best meet their needs.
Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program The Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program is a partnership between the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and Community Service Boards throughout Virginia. School Based Services Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board provides regular face-to-face in-school mental health services for youth in our public school system that are at-risk and experiencing difficulties at school. Early Intervention Specialists are placed in schools for direct contact with students and school officials. Issues addressed include: Substance Abuse/Alcohol Use Mental Health Behavior Modification Education Goal Setting

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
