Youth Focus is a local non-profit dedicated to serving Guilford County's youth and families since 1971. A powerful collaboration of medical professionals, therapists, administrators and volunteers, Youth Focus offers substance abuse counseling, foster care, young women's housing, counseling, emergency housing, school and educational groups.

Services Offered
Counseling * In-home Counseling - Youth Focus offers intensive in-home counseling services to families who have at least one child who is in risk of being removed from the home due to mental health and behavioral problems. Services focus on helping the family relationships improve through counseling, building on family strengths and increasing the family's support network.
* Outpatient Counseling - Youth Focus offers individual, group and family therapy to youth with mental health, behavioral health and substance abuse problems. Our counseling services empower youth to effect positive change in their lives and teach them new ways to deal with challenges they are facing.
Substance Use Treatment * Inpatient Substance Use Treatment - Youth Focus' residential program offers a structured, residential substance use counseling for up to 10 residents, 8 male (ASAP group home) and 2 female (Foster Services). Treatment combines intensive, inpatient substance use counseling with Youth Focus' Structured Day Program, an alternative school offering both educational and therapeutic services.
* Outpatient Substance Use Treatment - The Structured Day Program is an outpatient, day treatment program for youth in middle and high school with substance use problems. While enrolled, youth receive academic, psychiatric, individual and group counseling. Students receive full academic credit and transportation is provided.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
