DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COUNSELING SERVICES - Braden Counseling Center's Partner Abuse Intervention Program, (P.A.I.P.) is most often completed by individuals who have been accused of, or have engaged in, abusive behaviors with a significant other. This program focuses on resolving the root of the problem to help with long term change. Domestic Violence is a learned behavior and it is these learned behaviors that have caused you trouble. Our program is designed to help you unlearn the problematic behaviors, and understand why they are problematic, so you can have healthy relationships in the future. Healthy communication, respect, and conflict resolution are focused upon during the program.
DUI Counseling Services - Bad things happen to good people. Many have been arrested for DUI and it is important for you to remember the things you do don't define who you are. The State of Illinois requires a DUI evaluation before a case for DUI can be closed and Braden Counseling offers services to those who have been arrested for DUI. DUI evaluations and all levels of DUI treatment are available in all office locations, and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT - Many times our personality characteristics impact our substance use. For this reason, in addition to the DUI services we provide, we offer group counseling services that integrates mental health treatment with that for substance abuse. This enables clients to learn skills to manage mental health challenges as well as skills related to substance use modification, which can significantly enhance their success rates.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING SERVICES - At BCC our philosophy of "New Ways for Better Days" becomes a reality. An initial assessment session, usually 60-90 minutes, is usually the first step. During this time, you discuss your challenges and your goals of how you would like things to be. Your counselor will also talk with you about your history as sometimes there are factors that can influence your current situation that you didn't realize were related. We provide counseling services for all ages, and encourage clients to have significant others participate as well, but this is not mandatory.
FAMILY COUNSELING SERVICES - The family is a combination of different relationships. The individuals in the family also have their own unique characteristics. For this reason, there are often challenges that result from the necessity of working together. At times these challenges arise from events that change the functioning of the family. At other times changes in functioning are due to changes in individual family members or particular relationships within the family. Whatever the cause, our staff can help you increase communication and the methods used to cope with these challenges.
COUPLES COUNSELING SERVICES - Individuals have their own ways of functioning, belief systems, expectations, and communication patterns. When involved with another, these characteristics do not always fit well. Couples counseling at Braden Center focuses on identifying strengths and vulnerable patterns within the relationship. At BCC we work on practicing new skills of active listening, mindfulness, assertiveness training, rebuilding trust/intimacy, and attachment issues. There are also times that one or both individuals would benefit from working alone with a counselor, and we encourage this when it's needed. This does not take the place of counseling for the couple and can continue during the process. Know when this occurs, boundaries are maintained for all involved to facilitate continued forward movement.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
