The Northwestern Mental Health Center provides an array of services to individuals and families in response to the mental health needs in northwestern Minnesota, and as a part of the requirements of participating counties in fulfilling requirements for mental health service delivery contained in Minnesota statutes.
The Mental Health Professionals of the Outpatient / Counseling Program at Northwestern Mental Health Center work directly with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional problems.

Northwestern Mental Health Center's Community Support Services is a network of caring and responsible people committed to helping you achieve your personal goals. If you are a person with serious or persistent mental illness, we will assist you with individualized programs and services in locations that are convenient and familiar to you. We will help you to live independently, access affordable housing, gain employment, manage your symptoms, and avoid hospitalization.
Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS)
ARMHS services promote recovery by assisting recipients in gaining independent living and community skills, coping skills, social skills, and personal & emotional adjustment when these abilities are impacted by the symptoms of mental illness.
Intensive Community Rehabilitative Services (ICRS)
Intensive Community Rehabilitation Services provides services to those individuals who struggle with mental health symptoms where the focus is on skills building. The intensity differs from Community Support Program in that services are provided at least 2 times per week. These services can be provided in home, in the community, or in the office.
Targeted Case Management
Case Management Services are designed to assist recipients in gaining access to needed resources and services (medical, social, educational, vocational, financial, and other necessary services) as they relate to the recipient's mental health needs.
Day Treatment
Day treatment is an intensive, structured, therapeutic and rehabilitative day treatment group program that is offered for a minimum of six hours per week.
Family & Children's Services
To provide the services necessary, in conjunction with other programs at the Center and in the community, to help children diagnosed as severely emotional disturbed or those who are at-risk of a mental health diagnosis remain with their families and thrive in the home, school and/or community environments.
Group Therapy & Skills Building Provided In-Home
Group Therapy and Skills-Building services are provided to children with mental health issues or at-risk of mental health issues.
The goal is to help the children be successful in the home, school and community environments. These services are provided in selected school districts throughout the region.
School-Based Mental Health Service
The Northwestern Mental Health Center, Inc. (NWMHC) is contracted with 21 school districts in Northwestern Minnesota to provide on-site children's mental health services.
Children's Mental Health Case Management
Case management services help children with mental health issues gain access to needed medical, social, educational, vocational, financial and other necessary services as they relate to the recipient's mental health needs.
Emergency/Crisis Services
Crisis services are available to anyone experiencing a mental health crisis. They have access to supportive; strength based mental health crisis intervention and stabilization services that are provided as part of a larger system of care.
Early Childhood Services
Serving families with children birth to 5 years of age and early childhood service providers in Kittson, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Polk, and Red Lake Counties. Northwestern Mental Health Center's Early Childhood Program includes a wide range of mental health services that are designed to meet the unique needs of children and families.
NWMHC has a sliding fee scale.
