When young survivors of child abuse walk through our doors, it is the beginning of a difficult journey to healing. While child abuse affects every victim differently, most feel confused, guilty, and afraid. ChildSafe is one place where children and their families can feel safe, comfortable, and supported. Through expert counseling and compassion, we help them to not only survive, but also thrive as they work their way through their journey to healing and reach a point of recovery that will last.
We at ChildSafe are proud that we can provide treatment for all those who need our services. We are committed to providing safe, responsive treatment, education, and recovery from childhood abuse, primarily sexual abuse, without prejudice or discrimination while respecting the personal dignity and worth of each individual.
ChildSafe’s comprehensive Child Abuse Treatment Program was developed to repair the damage done to young victims and their families. This is our largest program, serving 70-90% of our clients.
The goal is to replace the feelings of helplessness, shame, guilt, and anger with feelings of empowerment, strength, and protection. Our program is outpatient and serves victims ages 2-18 and their non-offending family members. Treatments are a combination of individual, group, and family therapy as well as Neurofeedback which is a type of biofeedback for the brain.
Group therapy has proven very effective for many of our clients. Separate female and male groups are available for child and adolescent victims, as well as their siblings and parents/guardians. View our Therapy Groups below for more details.
Where appropriate, we also offer play therapy and EMDR (a technique for processing distressing thoughts, memories, and feelings. Our program has been very successful in helping clients overcome the effects of abuse. Families feel as if we have thrown them a lifeline.
We caution parents that it can take years to recover from victimization. It’s not unusual for children to end therapy during one stage of development only to need a ‘tune-up’ years later. However, we assure our clients that we’ll be available in the future to offer consultation or therapy if needed.
Abuse victims are at risk for psychological, emotional, social, and physical problems that can last into adulthood. But such adults can still be treated and helped.
ChildSafe has developed a program specifically tailored for adult men and women who were abused as children or adolescents. We provide evaluation, individual, family, and group therapy for these survivors. The goal is to empower them with the skills necessary to establish a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
We’ve found that it’s important for AMAC participants to have worked with an individual therapist, or be currently working with one, before they enter group treatment. This enables them to deal with the issues on a deeper level than can be done in a group where the time is shared. Additionally, any triggers for trauma can be identified and worked on in individual therapy.
We accept Victim Compensation, health insurance, and private pay. A sliding scale based on income is available. ChildSafe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and doesn’t turn families away because they lack financial resources.
One quick last question. Who was seeking counseling today?
Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
