Community Chest is a non-profit agency serving children and families in northwestern Nevada since 1991. We provide holistic solutions with the goal of building and sustaining strong families and communities. With the support of volunteers, agency staff, public and private revenue, Community Chest develops, offers, and sponsors services that make a difference in the lives of Nevada's youth and families. We believe that the connection we have with our clients is the most important contributor to a successful outcome in a therapeutic relationship. We are a team of dedicated mental health professionals that are committed to providing quality services to the individuals and families that we work with. We strive to be inclusive and practice from a multicultural and multidisciplinary perspective.
Our team is diverse and we have many different areas of expertise including, but not limited to: substance abuse, children, domestic violence, trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, social and interpersonal skills development, the juvenile justice system, and issues specific to the LGBTQ community. We continue to participate in continuing education to ensure that we are using best practices to meet the needs of our clients and our community.
Fees and Payment
We accept Medicaid and Nevada Check Up insurance. We also offer a Sliding Fee Discount Program as we are committed to serving all clients regardless of ability to pay. Please ask about discounts on counseling fees based on your annual income and family size. You may also qualify for some of our grant funded options.

A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
