Valley Christian Counseling Center of Fargo Moorhead
Valley Christian Counseling Center of Fargo Moorhead
Valley Christian Counseling Center was born in 1991 out of a conversation between a Christian physician named Dr. David Todd and a group of local pastors in the Fargo-Moorhead area. They asked, "Where can I send those who are hurting to receive professional and caring counseling that is in harmony with biblical Christianity?" Out of the silence that followed, came intense conviction. This conviction lead Dr. Todd and a team of pastors and professionals to establish Valley Christian Counseling Center.

Premarital Counseling - For couples considering marriage and couples engaged to be married, premarital counseling helps to prepare you for a lasting relationship. Lifelong love beings with open and thoughtful preparation. In your premarital counseling sessions, your counselor will lead both of you through important discussions to uncover questions and concerns each have - ultimately opening up essential avenues of communication.
Our premarital counseling will address individual expectations, emotional wounds, and family of origin beliefs. We will equip you with the tools for open communication regarding: * Myths surrounding marriage * Conflict resolution * Finances, sex, and faith * Other important topics
At your first meeting, your counselor will determine the number of sessions that would benefit you.
Marriage Counseling - Our marriage counseling strategy is to work with the husband and wife as a team. When both members of this team work together, amazing results happen. Healthy communication is rejuvenated - bringing the couple together in love and trust. Sometimes, problems are hard to see on surface level, and emotions can be complex and frustrating. Your counselor will help you as a couple address the core problems and issues in your relationship, paving the way for solutions and clear communication.
Topics of discussion may include: * Your family of origin & the model of marriage you experienced when growing up * Relationship & marriage expectations you both have * Discovering your unique communication style and learning how to improve communication with each other * Emotional triggers each of you have - and how to resolve them * Kindness for one another, genuine respect, and humility * How your faith equips you for a successful marriage * If all hope seems lost, you will discuss how the marriage can be rescued
Family Counseling - With family counseling, our professional counselors create a safe, welcoming environment where family members can come together to address issues and crises in a collaborative way. When families members are dealing with stress or trauma related to a difficult situation or event - we are here to work through it. Whether it be divorce, stress related to sibling needing treatment, abuse, new family dynamics, or conflict between family members - Valley provides expert analysis and insight. Session length and member involvement is based on need and family dynamic and VCCC counselors will visit about what would best fit your family's needs.
Children & Adolescent Counseling - Kids need a safe and understanding space to express their thoughts and feelings. By reaching them on their level and providing unconditional acceptance, we can open their hearts and minds to the truth. All kids face ups and downs, but if there is a significant change in behavior, academics, relationships, or if thoughts of self-harm present themselves, it's time to call VCCC. There are many reasons children are seen in counseling, including anxiety, depression, parent-child conflict, mood disorders, trauma, life stressors, and ADHD.
Children's therapy is vastly different from adult therapy, as kids struggle with verbalizing their experiences and emotions. Using shared experiences in art, games, and toys, each clinician can draw out the child's story in a natural and comfortable way.
Teen Counseling - The purpose of teen counseling is to help fix problems that are keeping teens from a successful and healthy lifestyle. Working together, we can break down the barriers and pave the road to healing. Substance, mental, and behavioral disorders can tear both an individual and family apart. The situation can feel hopeless, and like nobody understands. Yet, we know how you feel.
Some areas focus might be anxiety, depression, self esteem, behavioral issues, educational concerns, life transitions, family issues, bereavement & grief, or stress. Our counselors carefully work through the concerns and problems that your teen is facing. Teen counseling is typically scheduled for weekly, one-on-one sessions where our counselors listen, ask questions, and make suggestions for healthy life choices.
Men's Counseling - We live in a world where men are scrutinized, evaluated, and pressured to perform with certain expectations - both at work and home. Counselors at VCCC welcome men to explore and examine their struggles in a safe setting of respect, free from shame and condemnation. In an environment of grace and truth, issues can be addressed by a counselor who is professionally trained and equipped.
Individual men's counseling is available to think through behaviors or beliefs that are creating conflict within the individual, relationship, or family. Since these turmoils lead to distancing and separation of close relationships - it needs to be taken care of. Marital counseling is available to introduce tools that are designed to improve communication and intimacy.
Support and encouragement is crucial for recovery from addictive and destructive behaviors. Men's groups are available for this purpose - with a counselor acting as a facilitator to guide the process.
Individual Counseling - Our individual counseling provides an opportunity to work through your thoughts and feelings about the life stressors you are facing with a professional Christian counselor. During each individual counseling sessions you will spend about an hour one-on-one with a caring counselor who will learn about you and your life. The goal of this counseling is that you gain new perspectives and tools to use in life. Some areas focus might be anxiety, depression, self esteem, behavioral issues, educational concerns, life transitions, family issues, bereavement & grief, or stress.
Christian Consulting Services - We provide consulting services that range from speaking at a moms group, to premarital counseling at a church.
Fees and Payment
We have counselors that accept most insurance plans. Not all of our counselors accept all insurances. We have counselors that accept some Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
We do not offer a sliding fee scale. We do have several churches that help support our Client Assistance Funds (CAF) for people that do not have insurance coverage and cannot afford counseling fees because of financial difficulties. CAF is used for appointments with counselors that do not accept insurance. These funds will help cover up to half of your appointment fee, with a family limit of $500/year.
Direct pay is available through all of our counselors. We accept cash, check, debit, and credit cards. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FLEX) will usually cover services as well.
This is a non profit agency.

Do you know the reason they are not accepting clients?
Qualifying for assistance from North Dakota's program usually depends on the severity of your condition and financial circumstance. Read our full guide to North Dakota's program.
A community counseling agency is a group therapy practice that offers affordable mental health services. Most are independent non-profit agencies, state agencies, or publicly-funded agencies. A few may restrict who is eligible for services, so it is a good idea to check when you call.
Community counseling agencies are generally more affordable than other therapy providers, but how much more affordable they are will depend on whether you qualify for a discount or sliding scale fee (or if they accept your insurance). Many, but not all, have a policy that they won't turn away anyone due to inability to pay. You should ask about their fees when you first call.
Expect to talk to kind people who want to help you find the care you need. Most community agencies strive to connect you with a live person within 24 hours, if not immediately. If you're asked to hold or leave a message, don't give up; just leave a message and wait. You should hear back pretty quickly.
Most agencies try to set up an initial assessment appointment within a week (some do within 24 hours), though the waitlist to start therapy is usually longer—about a few weeks on average. If you're not eligible or if the agency is not right for you, it's usually still worth it to call or drop in, because staff are knowledgeable about local options and can often refer you to one.
